After the acquisition of Crunchyroll, how many anime companies are Sony now owned?

Confirmation of the acquisition of Crunchyroll from Sony through Funimation Global Group shocked Japanese animation fans.

Although neither Funimation neither Crunchyroll have revealed any details about the future of the two platforms, fans are already debating on the possible monopoly of the sector at the hands of the Japanese giant. An infographic released on the Net in the last few hours schematically shows the companies in the anime industry connected to Sony.

On the left side there are Sony Corporation of America (SCA), Sony’s US subsidiary; Sony Entertainment, focused on most of Sony’s film, television and music businesses; Sony Pictures Entertainment, US film producer and distributor e Sony Pictures Television, a US television production and distribution company.

On the right side we find Sony Music Entertainment Japan (SME), the Japanese extension of the Sony record company. This company owns the core manufacturing company Aniplex, whose affiliate, Aniplex of America, licenses US anime and animation studios A-1 Pictures e CloverWorks.

Sony Corporation of America e Sony Music Entertainment Japan converge in Funimation Global Group, an American entertainment company specializing in the distribution of foreign content. Distribution services come from this group Manga Entertainment (United States), Wakanim (France), Madman Entertainment (Australia and New Zealand) e Funimation as a video on demand platform (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Australia, New Zealand via AnimeLab and Madman Anime Group and Europe via Wakamin).

With the acquisition of Crunchyroll, the Japanese giant also acquires the company Crunchyroll EMEA, formerly known as VIZ Media Europe. This division includes distributors Anime on Demand (Germany), Anime Digital Network (France), Kazé Anime (Germany) e AV Visionen (Germany, Austria and Sweden).
