The popular yet controversial video game Cyberpunk 2077 is getting an adaptation on Netflix. The anime Edgerunners is out next year. This has now also been confirmed by the developer CD Projekt Red.
In the future, after the collapse of society and the fall of nature as we know it, the huge metropolis Night City stands in the middle of the desert that was once America. The city offers endless possibilities, but there are also dangers lurking around every corner. Wealth, fame, but also poverty and death await anyone who wants to gain a foothold in Night City. In a world full of criminals, junkies and members of the government company Arasaka live the Edgerunners, mercenaries who do anything for money. This concept convinced fans many years ago when the open world game “Cyberpunk 2077” was announced in 2012. Many years have passed since then in which a huge hype built up around the game. Even if Cyberpunk is one of the most technically advanced games of all time, many players were disappointed when it was released in early December 2020. On the one hand, this was due to the extreme expectations and, on the other hand, the many bugs that users with weaker devices had to experience en masse.
Despite the controversy about the bugs and errors in the game, “Cyberpunk 2077” is a great success for the Polish developer CD Projekt Red. So much so that an anime is now being created in collaboration with Studio Trigger. “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” should be called the ten-part anime and tell a story that takes place in Night City, but does not take up the plot from the game. The anime should appear on Netflix as early as 2022.
It will be some time before fans can finally stream the “Cyberpunk” anime on Netflix. Even if we don’t have to wait as long as for a new movie, the game can still be played for several hours before it starts to explore every little secret and Easter egg in Night City.
