Harley Quinn is the most unique dark cosplay host in Venom

As different as DC Comics’ Harley Quinn and Marvel’s Venom are, they’re incredibly popular with fans, and their villain-turned-hero character arcs are one of the few things they have in common. Harley Quinn has never officially crossed paths on the page, but Twisted’s new take on the character corrects that with a unique Venom redesign that showcases her more terrifying nature as a deranged member of a long line of super-powered Batman villains – and now Spider-Man.

Harley x Venom cosplayer Harley Hernandez (@asylumharley) and photographer Mark (@nycosplayer) of these images shared their cosplays on Instagram, and the two creative talents have created something truly special with this collaboration that does justice to the duo’s comic book characters.

Harley Hernandez, who previously played Margot Robbie’s live-action version of Harley Quinn, has also dressed up as the villain Stan from My Hero Academia, Wednesday from The Addams Family, and even as a dark version of Alice from the classic video game Alice: Madness Returns, giving each new design the attention it deserves to impress on every level.

Currently, Harley Quinn is doing her best to walk the line between full-blown heroine and low-key weekend criminal, never losing her slightly unhinged side that’ll hug you or hit you over the head with a baseball bat. Likewise, Venom has a villainous side that his various hosts have to constantly keep in check, which can’t always be said for other symbiote-bearing individuals. Now, thanks to Harley Hernandez, the more evil sides of both Harley Quinn and Venom are finally getting the upper hand, forming the terrifying hybrid character that fans need to see.

With a wide grin, half a toxic face, slicked-back hair, and clown-like face paint, Harley Hernandez is as unsettling as the Harley Quinn branding. Combat boots, a tattered punk-style outfit, and the Batman Who Laughs belt accessory replace Harley’s usual bat/mallet to create a unique look that combines elements from multiple versions of Harley. In the next piece, Harley Hernandez’s symbiote arm accessory goes even crazier, completing the design and proving that Toxic Harley Quinn deserves a place in the official Marvel/DC canon.

As Venom’s new host, Harley Quinn is more dangerous than ever

Unless Marvel and DC find a way to revive the long-dormant Amalgam universe, characters like Dark Claw, a hybrid of Batman and Wolverine, and Spider-Man and Superboy will survive and thrive in this world. The Spider-Man cosplay community will continue to be a unique place to see unique redesigns, like the disturbing yet amazing Harley Quinn x Venom fusion. There are countless iterations of Harley Quinn and multiple different symbiotes, Venom, and more waiting for Harley Hernandez (@asylumharley) to explore next, so let’s hope fans get new versions of these iconic characters soon!

The Venom symbiote is an alien creature that first bonded to Peter Parker (Spider-Man) in the story “Secret Wars”. After Parker rejected the symbiote, he found a new host in Eddie Brock, a disgraced journalist. The symbiote and Brock bonded over their shared hatred of Spider-Man, becoming the anti-hero known as Venom. Over time, Venom has evolved from villain to anti-hero, often fighting alongside other heroes to protect the innocent, though his methods remain brutal.

When a sentient alien symbiote fused with Eddie Brock, supervillain Venom was born, the most classic and fan-favorite addition to Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. While Brock isn’t the only human to have bonded with the Venom symbiote, he is the most well-known and popular, thanks in part to his appearances in Spider-Man and the standalone film. Since his introduction, Venom has evolved from villain to anti-hero, battling serial killer Cletus Kasady and his symbiote Carnage.
