Interviewee of “Changchun”: The realm of the protagonists in the story is beyond words | Nobita | Banned by the CCP | Oscar

[The Epoch Times, November 17, 2022](Reported by Epoch Times reporter Yu Lili in New York) “When I look back and think about it, they are the heroes in my early comic strips.” “In the final monologue, he said: “I didn’t know that even a hero, his greatness lies in his firmness and kindness in the ordinary.”

The Chinese animation documentary “Changchun” (Eternal Spring), which was nominated by Canada for the best international film of the 95th Oscar, has recently been shortlisted for two other film units in Hollywood and entered the three competition units of the 95th Oscar: Best Animated Director Film, Best Documentary and Best International Film.

From November 18th to 24th, “Changchun” will have an extended screening at the Laemmle Royal Theater in Los Angeles. The introduction on the theater’s website states that “Changchun” combines modern lenses and three-dimensional animation created by Nobita (the well-known animator Guo Jingxiong), and looks back on this history on the 20th anniversary of the “Changchun TV Spot Incident”.

“This is the wish of many people”

On March 5, 2002, Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun successfully inserted into the official TV network, broadcasting the Falun Gong truth documentaries “Dafa Spreads to the World” and “Testimony: Self-immolation or a Hoax”, trying to expose the CCP’s rumors and propaganda against Falun Gong and its brutal persecution to the public. This incident shocked China and the world at the time, creating a feat in human history against totalitarian tyranny.

One of the interviewees in the storyline of the movie “Changchun”, Wang Jianmin from Changchun, was an insider of the “305 TV spot incident” at that time. According to his recollection, after the incident, the CCP carried out frenzied arrests. More than 5,000 Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun City were arrested, and nearly 400 Falun Gong practitioners in Songyuan City were arrested.

“This kind of sacrifice is very worthwhile. It can arouse people’s kindness and conscience, and see clearly the tyranny of the CCP. In order to let people get a little real information, some people sacrificed their lives as the price.” When talking about the large-scale arrests caused by the incident, Wang Jianmin Tell The Epoch Times.

Xiaolan, another interviewee from Changchun in the film “Changchun” (the bottom one on the right), has been persecuted three times in mainland China, twice before the incident, and the third time after the incident. Looking back at those years, everyone around her was trying their best to let more people know the truth about Falun Gong. She said, “This naturally led to the TV spot, which is the wish of many people. Liang Zhenxing and Liu Chengjun finally accomplished this feat.”

“The lie of ‘self-immolation’ is the most poisonous to the Chinese people”

Looking back on the persecution that happened around me back then, I still vividly remember it. Xiaolan said, “After the CCP began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, each of us has thought about it. We are the beneficiaries of Falun Gong. We went to the Petition Office with good intentions to tell the government that Falun Dafa is good. But the petition turned out to be arrests. In the end, because too many people went there, it was also closed.”

At that time, news of Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted to death continued to spread around us. She recalled, “I was only 20 years old at the time, and a kind girl beside me died at the age of 19. Whether I was a Falun Gong practitioner or not, I would stop the persecution.”

People slowly began to know some basic truths. However, in 2001, the CCP concocted the “Tiananmen self-immolation incident” to frame Falun Gong. For a while, many Chinese believed it was true and developed hatred towards Falun Gong practitioners. She said, “Even my close friend, when I came out to see her after being detained, she asked me, ‘Where have you been these past few months? I thought you set yourself on fire.'”

“This ‘self-immolation’ lie has poisoned the Chinese people the most. Everyone is thinking about how to let people know the truth more quickly and extensively,” she said.

Why take such a big risk? Where does this courage come from?

“At that time, I didn’t directly participate in the incident, but I supported this practice, which can let more people know the truth and avoid hostility and hatred towards Falun Gong practitioners.” Xiaolan said.

Wang Jianmin believes that the film “Changchun” also expresses the enormous pressure these participants were under. “There are internal and external pressures. There are also many people who don’t understand or agree, and worry that it will lead to greater persecution. The external pressure is the CCP’s dictatorship, which controls the army and controls everything. No one dares to speak out, let alone in China. Make an episode on public TV so that more people can see it.”

When asked about his thoughts back then, Jin Xuezhe, the main interviewee in the story of the film “Changchun” and a participant in the interlude event, gave a concise and clear answer, “At that time, too many Falun Gong practitioners around me were arrested, sent to labor camps, and sentenced to prison. I just thought, this approach is great, it will allow more people to see the real situation of Falun Gong at the same time, and break the lies of the CCP, and we firmly believe that the environment will be corrected.”

After being displaced and illegally imprisoned for ten years, Kim Hak-chul is the only survivor who was able to leave China and go overseas.

Jin Xuezhe said that at that time, there were different ideas and voices of opposition, “The benevolent sees the benevolence, the wise sees the wisdom, and those who can participate are very remarkable. I didn’t think about the consequences at all at the time.”

Recalling that year, Wang Jianmin said in an interview with The Epoch Times, “We are all practitioners of this practice. We know what ‘Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance’ has brought us, and we also know that it will bring benefits to others, society and society.” What the country, and even the entire human race bring.”

He said, “Falun Gong is a practice of Buddhism, and ‘Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance’ is a universal value. When a country or a government opposes the value of ‘Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance’, what will this nation and this country face?”

“When we see the CCP using lies to deceive the people, turning truth into black, and driving people to criticize Falun Gong’s universal value of ‘Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance’, in our view, morality will be destroyed and the nation will be in danger.”

In the face of danger, he sacrificed his life for righteousness, “only those who understand the meaning of life and have heard the Buddha’s teachings have such extraordinary power and courage.” Wang said.

Recalling the contact with those interstitial heroes back then, Wang Jianmin felt, “Their kindness and their realm are beyond words.”

Praise the episode hero to keep his loyalty and take a picture of history

Looking back on those years, the episodes had an extraordinary effect on the society. “People suddenly saw different voices. It turned out that there was only one voice in the ‘News Network’. How bad it was all about Falun Gong. This aroused people’s thinking. Some people were shocked, ‘Has Falun Gong been rehabilitated?'” Wang recalled road.

“It has spanned 20 years, and today, someone gave her life for it, and someone gave her artistic creation. This documentary is performed with life and has withstood the tempering of time.”

This film is bound to play a huge role. Wang firmly believed, “This incident back then was of great significance. Some people lamented the lost lives, but there is a saying among people, ‘No one in life has died since ancient times, and keep the loyalty to reflect the history’.”

At the 2007 Human Rights Awards Ceremony, the Asian Human Rights Foundation presented the “Danxin History Award” to Liu Chengjun, one of the participants in the episode. Liu Chengjun was arrested and imprisoned for intervening in the broadcast, and was tortured to death later.

When Wang Jianmin was asked about his impressions of watching “Changchun” in person, he said: “I have a feeling that this is a documentary, which is real and touching. There is no falsehood, it is all real, not a show.” “It’s about telling the truth and what I saw and heard at the time.”
