Oscar Piastri (Prema) and Théo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) animated the main race on Sunday in Sochi, and spent almost the 28 laps wheel in wheel, but the Frenchman never managed to find the opening to take the best on the Australian. He just passed in the pit stops, but had to admit defeat and settle for second place. A good performance nonetheless for the rookie, who thus signs a third podium this season, and gains a place in the Championship, to climb to 5th place with 120 points.
For Piastri, this third victory in 2021, and his fifth consecutive podium in the main race, allows him to escape at the top of the Championship, because his closest rival, Guanyu Zhou (Uni-Virtuosi), had to settle for the 6th place behind Jehan Daruvala (Carlin), Robert Shwartzman (Prema) and Dan Ticktum (Carlin), winner of the first race on Saturday. The Australian now has 178 points and the Chinese 142. The next round of the Championship will take place in Saudi Arabia, from December 3 to 5.
