Ten most scientific films about space

  • Space flight (1935). The film was directed by Vasily Zhuravlev. Cosmonautics expert Konstantin Tsiolkovsky took part in the creation of the picture. Given the scientific advances of the thirties, Space Voyage is ideal in many ways. The director managed to believably show weightlessness, low lunar gravity, all the attributes of an astronaut were also present, including spacesuits.

  • Europe (2012). In this case, we are talking about an international project, on which 10 million dollars were spent, while the quality of the film remained at a decent level. The graphics are good, the ship and Jupiter’s moon where the expedition is heading are very convincing. The main style is shooting with a handheld camera, this approach allowed us to hide minor flaws.

  • The Impact of the Abyss (1998). The idea of the film is that an asteroid flies to Earth, and the Americans send astronauts to blow it up. Throughout the entire tape, the tense atmosphere of an approaching catastrophe persists, the president does everything for the citizens, the astronauts are doing their duty. The asteroid was destroyed, but its debris still fell to Earth.

  • Gravity (2013). Alfonso Cuarón’s drama about the stream of space debris has received positive reviews from critics and audiences. The film has almost no flaws, its plot, scenery, atmosphere were thought out in detail, which is the merit of the director and the crew. The quality of the picture was greatly influenced by the participation of a scientific consultant – astrophysicist Kevin Grezier.

  • Alien Planet (2005). It was based on the album by artist Wayne Barlow, who came up with the idea of artificial intelligence probes sent into space to study the planet Darwin IV. Their analysis revealed life and a thriving ecosystem with animals. The director and scriptwriters paid special attention to them. The probes themselves were also thought out in detail. The painting was highly appreciated by critics, viewers and even scientists.

  • Interstellar (2014). In this case, we are talking about a combination of science fiction and scientific knowledge. The plot of the film was developed by astrophysicist Kip Thorne. The directors took his idea and put it into practice. Viewers ambiguously perceived the creation of the Nolan brothers, but scientists approved it. The picture showed a real black hole and told about the paradoxes of distorted space-time.

  • Wanderers (2003). The only anime series on the list. The central place in the narrative is occupied by ordinary workers of the future, space scavengers who are engaged in cleaning the orbits of failed satellites and their debris. Thanks to them, astronautics has not yet been mired in accidents. From a technical point of view, there is nothing to complain about. The heroes live at the station, spend a lot of time in zero gravity, and there are no sounds. This anime opens up a new perspective on the Cosmos.

  • The Martian (2015). Director Ridley Scott presented the public with a picture that deserves attention. The film tells the story of Mark Watney, who is forced to survive on another planet. The script is based on the book by Andy Weir, NASA experts also took part. Central to the idea is what the human mind is capable of when it comes to survival, and much attention is paid to the scientific advances that allowed humanity to get to Mars.

  • A space odyssey 2001. The film is the collaborative work of science fiction writer Arthur Clarke and experimental director Stanley Kubrick. Western critics consider this the best science fiction film. Odyssey has made a great contribution to the development of the film industry, especially in terms of special effects. It is based on the space project “Odyssey”. The station, space food, ship designs – all of these elements are well thought out.

  • Contact (1997). Director Robert Zemeckis took up the adaptation of Carl Sagan’s book. The main idea is to form an idea of what kind of contact with a highly developed civilization will be. From the point of view of science, the film is believable, only alien technologies raise questions, but this is already part of the creators’ imagination. Much attention was paid to the confrontation between science and religion. The picture also showed how the process of establishing communication with an extraterrestrial civilization will proceed.
