The new Asus gaming laptop has gigantic specs and a very special second LED AniMe Matrix screen.
As today’s PC gamer, building your desktop today is equal parts hardware and design. After all, in addition to a good processor and sturdy video card, you also want everything to look sexy. Fans, RAM and cases therefore have all kinds of LED lighting. But as a laptop gamer, the RGB gaming hardware on offer is a bit limited. Asus’ new Republic of Gamers Zephyrus G14 will be fine. The PC has the world’s first AniMe Matrix LED screen on the top.
Asus Republic of Gamers Zephyrus G14
Asus’ new gaming laptop, the Republic of Gamers Zephyrus G14, is a gaming beast. The PC runs on a Ryzen 9 processor, has an Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU, 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD drive. In short, a very sturdy gaming PC that can usually run everything in high graphic settings.
The main screen is a minor drawback; the G14 has a relatively small 14-inch FHD screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz. Fortunately, the same laptop with 120Hz refresh rate will be released in August. Because with all that computing power you want to produce the maximum amount of frames. 60Hz basically bottlenecks everything above 60 fps, so the 120Hz option expands the possibilities considerably.
Tweede LED AniMe Matrix display
In addition, the Zephyrus G14 is equipped with a special visual addition, the AniMe Matrix LED display. In contrast to this laptop from Asus it is not about a functional second touchscreen screen. Instead, the LED setup of 1215 mini LED lights is there for personalization.
You can set the screen on the other side of the main display to show images. But that is not everything. You can also play a moving image on the LED display. Consider, for example, cool animations (such as the iconic letters from The Matrix) or visuals that move with the music (such as those old Windows Music Player visuals). Later Asus also releases an update that shows notifications of, for example, new messages or remaining battery with the lights.
Price and release date
The Asus Republic of Gamers Zephyrus G14 has a suggested retail price of € 2,199. Previously Asus already released a ROG Zephyrus G14 without a flashy extra display for around € 1500. So you pay for the extra that is called the AniMe Matrix LED display. On the other hand, it also has slightly less impressive specs. The laptop is now for sale at all major Dutch tech web shops, including Alternate, Bol and Paradigit.
