This could be the next successful game-based anime

We haven’t heard anything about the upcoming anime adaptation for many, many months, but suddenly all the details were announced in Aniplex’s latest online show.

We’ve known since the beginning of this year that the Aniplex studio (Sword Art Online) is making an anime based on NieR: Automata, which starts with good chances – Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, for example, is on its own, and Cyberpunk 2077 has also boosted its popularity. We haven’t received any information about the project since the announcement, but the Aniplex Online Fest was due this weekend, during which everything was revealed.

The 8 and a half minutes of the show was about NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, which is the official title of the adaptation, and signifies that there will be changes compared to the original story.

Yoko Taro, the father of the NieR games, talked about the changes himself, and although director Ryoji Masuyama said that everything will be mostly in place, Taro enjoyed pulling the audience. After joking that the creators tried to completely rewrite the story and were barely able to stop them, he admitted that fans of the game will not be too surprised by the events.

In the 8-minute recording above, we can also see the character introduction trailers. The roles of the two protagonists, 2B and 9S, were given to Yui Ishikawa and Natsuki Hanae, who also voiced the protagonists in the game.

NieR: Automata Ver1.1a will arrive sometime in January 2023.
