There is no anime enthusiast worthy of the name who does not know or has never heard of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hideaki Anno’s masterpiece and icon of the medium all over the world. The work is so important that the Netflix disaster had a media coverage with few precedents.
The affection that binds Italian fans to Evangelion is also attested by the recent results at the box office of the two films broadcast to the cinema in the last few weeks which they collected in just three days, still in the pandemic emergency, over 100 thousand euros. But what exactly does “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, the title of the work, mean?
To reveal the literal translation of the work is SFE, the encyclopedia par excellence of the sci-fi world. In fact, the portal translates the title as “New Century Evangelion”, literally the “Gospel of the New CenturyAfter all, in fact, the series is full of religious and theological references, with a keen eye on cabala, the Jewish doctrine that focuses its efforts on the study of the most intimate and secret symbols of the Bible. There is obviously no lack of citations to the apocryphal book of Enoch and much more that would need an entire manual to deepen all the imagery built by Hideaki Anno around his work.
