In the middle of the city, forest spirits are moving forward… Magdeburg has a new conference point, a paradise for comic fans, cosplayers and everyone who wants an extraordinary cafe experience. Earlier this month, the Waldgeister comic cafe opened its doors in the northern part of the north. It is a mixture of food and bookstores. Founders Steven Swantusch and Carli Martin are looking to create a place where the local comic community is home with a comfortable reading corner, a large number of comics and dishes.
comics? These are Japanese manga, characterized by their special painting style and their own narrative style. They can enjoy horror and science fiction in the action and fantasy of many genres. Many famous anime series are based on successful comic series.
The forest spirit cafe is inspired by the mysterious forest of cartoons: “Princess Monoke”. This is exactly what the name reflects. Steven and Carli are both trained educators with great passion for anime and comics. Together, they ventured to pursue their own careers and realized their dream of a comic café in Magdeburg.
But “Forest Spirit” is more than just a place to drink coffee and exciting stories. In addition to classic hot drinks and desserts, the community has merchandise and space. Reading, painting classes and role-playing sessions will be held here in the future.
“There are a lot of comics and anime fans in Magdeburg, but there is a lack of a real starting point. We want to change that.” With the annual CONTAKU conference, there was a big event, but so far the regular gathering sites on site have been missing.
The community’s response shows that the concept is coming. Even before opening, the project was passionate, and the first few days showed that many people not only visited cafes for coffee, but also were like like-minded people. “We want everyone to be welcome – whether someone has been reading comics for a long time or immersing them in the anime world,” Cali said. “Waldgeister Manga Café” wants to attract fans and curious guests.
