Satyrnet turns 25: the history of the Pioneers of Italian Nerd Culture
Back in November 1999, when the Internet was still an unexplored territory, a visionary project was born, destined to leave its mark: sattnet. Created by Gianluca Falletta, the site is not just a simple collection of web pages, but a virtual place where the passion for alternative entertainment has finally found its home. Today, 25 years later, we celebrate this incredible journey that has seen Satyrnet transform from a small blog into a pillar of Italian nerd culture.
Satyrnet was created with one clear mission: to provide news, reviews, and insights about anime, comics, video games, movies, and cosplay for everyone who loves fantasy and creativity. When the internet was still in its infancy, the audacity to create such a space was almost revolutionary. Thanks to the passion of the founders and the ever-growing enthusiasm of its users, the site quickly became a reference point for the Italian nerd community.
In 2003, with the birth of the Satinet Cultural Association, this dream evolved into reality. Gianluca Falletta, Massimiliano Oliosi and Giovanni Caloro join forces to express their passion for comicsanimation, movies and role-playing games, organize events, participate in expos and launch a cultural movement that unites hundreds of enthusiasts. Among his first undertakings, the most notable was the promotion of cosplay, an art then little known in Italy that, thanks to Satyrnet, found its first real online community.
Over the years, the association has helped spread nerd culture to every corner of the country. Satyrnet has been the headliner at hundreds of events, from large events like Romics and Lucca Comics & Games to more intimate local projects. He has worked with giants like Disney, Universal, Sony, and Rai, proving that nerd culture is not a niche phenomenon, but a force capable of impacting entertainment and society.
In 2023, Satyrnet takes another step forward and creates the digital magazine CorriereNerd.it, Once again evolving the way pop culture is told and embracing new technologies to deliver increasingly innovative content.
It’s a symbol of a community that can grow together, face the challenges of time, and celebrate the uniqueness of nerds. Satirnet has proven that pop culture is not just a pastime but a universe of creativity, friendship and togetherness.
Today, as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, Satyrnet’s heartbeat is beating stronger than ever. It is with pride and gratitude that we thank all the members, collaborators and supporters who have contributed to making this dream a reality. We look to the future with the same enthusiasm as ever, ready to innovate and develop further.
Because Satyrnet isn’t just the past: it’s the present and future of Italian nerd culture. And this is just the beginning.
